His club and RSPCA condemned his action, and he apologized in the public space for his intolerant action. Further, he stated his pet cats were fine and healthy. However, the Brigitte Bardot Foundation filed a complaint against Zouma, and Essex Police launched an inquiry against him. 

RSPCA charged him with animal cruelty under the 2006 Animal Welfare Act, where he appeared at Barkingside Magistrates Court on May 24, 2022. He pleaded guilty to the court to two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected Bengal cat.
